Invitation to a Beheading by Vladimir Nabokov. This month we're reading the Elliot Bay Book Club selection and attending their meetig. Information here.
I've been reading and enjoying it so far. It's been described as being Kafka-esque (Kafka is a favorite author of mine), but Nabokov notes and takes exception to that comparison in a forward to the edition I have. I agree. Yes, they both involve not-so-veiled critiques of totalitarian regimes and their intrinsic insanity. However, it seems to me that ITAB has more in common with magical realism of Latin America and Isabel Allende's House of the Spirits. -- Nancy
